UNDER THE ROOF OF BLUE IONIAN WEATHER

Heliogravure uit 1901 uitgegeven door Arthur Tooth & Sons. naar het gelijknamige schilderij (Opus CCCLXIII) van Sir Lawrence (Lourens) Alma-Tadema. In de tijd met de hand gekleurd. Afm.: 35 x 82,5 cm.

We watched the ocean and sky together, under the roof of blue Italian weather“.

Its colour is so equisite and dainty; its composition and arrangement so consummately learned, whether as to perspective, linear and aerial, tone and atmosphere, and reflected lights; and the drawings of the figures and the painting of the flesh so admirable that this picture may be pronounced in some qualities superior to, or more attractive than anything the master has produced before.
