Met potlood gesigneerd door Blanchard en Alma-Tadema. In de tijd met de hand gekleurd. Afm.: 33 x 13,5 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Dit werk komt uit een serie van voorstellingen van de vier seizoenen: <i>The Seasons: A Roman Idyll<\/i>. In het voorjaar plukken jonge vrouwen manden vol bloemen. Een meisje in een vale tuniek staat in een veld met anemonen, ze kijkt dromend naar die ene rode klaproos. De sc\u00e8ne zou zich kunnen afspelen in de tuinen van <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Villa_Borghese\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Villa Borghese<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Villa_Doria_Pamphili\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Villa Pamfili<\/a>. De recensent van de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalacademy.org.uk\/page\/a-brief-history-of-the-ra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal Academy<\/a> beschreef het schilderij als volgt:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>Young Roman maidens gathering flowers for the fe<\/i><i>ast<\/i><i> to celebrate the opening year. The flowers, that thickly cover the ground like our daisies and buttercups, are the star anemone, which attracts the attention of travellers to the Eternal City. The principal figure is a tall girl in a pale dress making, as far as the painter\u2019s part of the work goes, perhaps the most lovely picture of the four.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Het schilderij waarnaar de gravure gemaakt is, hing tot 1944 in het <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schlesisches_Museum_der_Bildenden_K%C3%BCnste\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Schlesisches Museum f\u00fcr bildende K\u00fcnste<\/a> in Breslau (thans het Poolse Wroc\u0142aw), maar ging tijdens de Slacht om Breslau verloren.
