Lithografie vervaardigd door <strong>Adrien Canelle<\/strong>, voor \u201c<em>La Belgique Industrielle<\/em>\u201d een prestigieus platenboek waarin de moderne industrie van Belgi\u00eb wordt getoond, gedrukt door Simonau &amp; Toovey en uitgegeven in <strong>1854<\/strong> door J. G\u00e9ruzet te Brussel. Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. ca. 28 x 43 cm.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9325 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/inter-antiquariaat.nl\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/Station-Roosendaal-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Op 9 juli 1852 sloten Belgi\u00eb en Nederland een verdrag om een nieuwe spoorlijn aan te leggen, die Antwerpen met Rotterdam zou verbinden. Station Roosendaal werd geopend met de ingebruikname van de spoorlijn Antwerpen \u2013 Lage Zwaluwe op 23 juni 1854. Op 3 mei 1855 werden de verbindingen naar Breda en naar Moerdijk geopend (in 1872 verlengd naar Dordrecht \u2013 Rotterdam). Vanaf Moerdijk kon men met per raderstoomschip verder reizen naar Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<p>Roosendaal behoorde buiten de steden in het westen en midden van Nederland tot de eerste plaatsen die een spoorverbinding kregen en was de eerste stad van Noord-Brabant met een station.<\/p>\n<p>De <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9_Anonyme_des_chemins_de_fer_d%27Anvers_%C3%A0_Rotterdam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Anonyme des chemins de fer d&#8217;Anvers \u00e0 Rotterdam<\/em><\/a> (AR) verzorgde de exploitatie; op 1 januari 1864 werd de exploitatie overgenomen door de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_Central_Belge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Grand Central Belge<\/em><\/a>. Op 1 mei 1876 opende de Staat der Nederlanden een verbindingsspoor van Zevenbergen naar Lage Zwaluwe, waar de lijn aansloot op de spoorlijn Breda &#8211; Rotterdam (Staatslijn I). In 1880 werd de spoorlijn aan Belgische zijde genationaliseerd en voortaan door de Belgische staat ge\u00ebxploiteerd.
