Size: (paper) 44 x 32,4 cm (frame: 58,5 x 44,5 cm).<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">Mme.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">Bruy\u00e8re (1884 &#8211; after 1959) was born in the French countryside, but her ambitious parents moved to the growing suburbs of Paris, where things went well for them.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">They lived in the chic Saint Gratien, where Princesse Mathilde (the niece of Napoleon I) also lived.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">She followed her education with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louise_Ch%C3%A9ruit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cheruit<\/a> and then with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeanne_Lanvin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lanvin<\/a>.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">In 1928 she opened her own &#8220;<em>Bruy\u00e8re Couture<\/em>&#8220;, and with her collection of early 1930 she placed herself among the leading young fashion designers of her time such as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elsa_Schiaparelli\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Schiaparelli<\/a>, Alix, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rochas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rochas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mainbocher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mainbocher<\/a>.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">Her fame grew internationally, allowing her to open a grand salon on Place Vend\u00f4me in 1937.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bruy\u00e8re&#8217;s designs were exported to the United States, and in 1932, <i>Fortune<\/i> noted that in the stores of <a title=\"Manhattan\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manhattan\">Manhattan<\/a> Bruy\u00e8re was the third most popular name, behind <a title=\"Madeleine Vionnet\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Madeleine_Vionnet\">Vionnet<\/a> and Lanvin.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">Her clothing was chic, very wearable and above all fashionable, striking because of its subtle and unusual design elements.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">With two shows per year with 200 models each, she had a huge production and had 328 employees in 1947.<\/span> <span class=\"\" title=\"\">Her business grew until the mid-1950s.
