Size: approx. 25,5 x 68,5 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Wonderful rare view of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Helsinki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Helsinki<\/a> from the time that the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_Duchy_of_Finland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grand Duchy of Finland<\/a> was (an autonomous) part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Russian_Empire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russian Empire<\/a> (1809-1917).<\/p>\n<p>Russian Emperor Alexander I of Russia moved the Finnish capital from Turku to Helsinki in 1812 to reduce Swedish influence in Finland, and to bring the capital closer to Saint Petersburg. Following the Great Fire of Turku in 1827, the Royal Academy of Turku, which at the time was the country&#8217;s only university, was also relocated to Helsinki and eventually became the modern University of Helsinki. The move consolidated the city&#8217;s new role and helped set it on a path of continuous growth. The neoclassical architecture of the time (still visible in today\u2019s downtown area), mostly planned by the German-born architect <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carl_Ludvig_Engel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carl Ludvig Engel<\/a>, was to resemble Saint Petersburg.<\/p>\n<p>From left to right we see:\u00a0 the university, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Harbour,_Helsinki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South Harbour<\/a> (<em>Etel\u00e4satama)<\/em>, National Library, Maison de la Societ\u00e9, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Helsinki_Cathedral\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Helsinki Cathedral<\/a>, Statue of Emperor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alexander_II_of_Russia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexander II of Russia<\/a>, Houses of Parliament, The Bank, Imperial Palace, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/House_of_Nobility_(Finland)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House of Nobility<\/a> (<em>Ritarihuone<\/em>), House of the Guards (<em>P\u00e4\u00e4vartio<\/em>), The Canal (<em>Katajanokan kanava<\/em>),\u00a0 the mansion of General <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Otto_Wilhelm_Klinckowstr%C3%B6m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Otto Wilhelm Klinckowstr\u00f6m<\/a>, the North Harbour with\u00a0 the station of the Finnish ships of war, the Blekholm Islands (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myhelsinki.fi\/en\/see-and-do\/activities\/valkosaari\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Valkosaari<\/a><\/em>), the provincial prison and the barracks and arsenal, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonna.fi\/en\/lonna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lonna island<\/a>, Gustafssv\u00e4rd passage, East Svarto island, Fortress of Sveaborg (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suomenlinna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Suomenlinna<\/a><\/em>) and West Svarto island.<\/p>\n<p>Price: Euro 975,-<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cPanorama of Helsingfors and the Fortress of Sv\u00e9aborg\u201d, lithograph made by Maclure, MacDonald &amp; MacGregor after photographs by M.V.
