A. Koning en J.F. Brugman in <strong>1840<\/strong>. Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. (papier, h x b) 139 x 177 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Tussen 1835 en 1860 zijn van alle provincies van ons land op kadasterkaarten gebaseerde overzichtskaarten vervaardigd. Drenthe was een van de eerste waar dat gebeurde. Er was behoefte aan een nieuwe, grootschalige kaart van de provincie, de inmiddels zo\u2019n <a href=\"https:\/\/inter-antiquariaat.nl\/en\/antiques\/rare-maps\/maps-netherlands\/drenthe-blaeu\/\">tweehonderd jaar oude kaart<\/a> van <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cornelis_Pijnacker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cornelis Pijnacker<\/a> was volkomen verouderd.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Wernecke, boekhouder en landmeter bij het kadaster, kreeg in maart 1837 opdracht de kaart te vervaardigen. Zijn kaart bestond uit vier bladen op een schaal van 1:50.000 en was gebaseerd op de kadasterkaarten van de Drentse gemeenten. Deze kadasterkaarten bevatten weliswaar veel informatie die voor de nieuwe provinciekaart bruikbaar was, maar er moest toch heel wat gebeuren om tot een goede topografisch kaart te komen. De bestaande gemeentelijke kadasterkaarten sloten niet goed op elkaar aan en tonen geen terreindetails en hoogteverschillen. <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marke_(bestuur)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Markegronden<\/a>, veelal heidevelden en venen, kwamen op kadasterkaarten dikwijls als \u00e9\u00e9n perceel voor en de aanleg van nieuwe wegen of het verleggen van oude werden niet door het Kadaster bijgehouden. Dat gold ook voor de vaarten die voor de afvoer van turf waren gegraven. Nadere opmetingen in het terrein waren dus nodig. Als basis voor de meetkundige nauwkeurigheid van de nieuwe kaart dienden veelal kerktorens<\/p>\n<p>De kaart toont geheel Drenthe en delen van de omliggende provincies. Details zoals kerken, molens, hunebedden, bossen, tollen wegen, worden duidelijk aangegeven. Marke- en gemeentegrenzen zijn ingetekend. Landbouwgronden en groenlanden worden door middel van arcering onderscheiden. Heide- en veengebieden zijn wit gelaten. Rond de kaart is een gradenrand aangebracht, die echter voor de onderste twee bladen onjuist is. Vestingwerken als <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bourtange.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bourtange<\/a> en <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vestingwerken_van_Coevorden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coevorden<\/a> zijn niet exact afgebeeld, naar mag worden aangenomen uit militaire overwegingen.<\/p>\n<p><em>Literatuur: H.J.
