Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. (incl. tekst): ca. 19,5 x 21,5 cm.<\/p>\n<p>De Britse <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wisselbank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wisselbank<\/a> hangt aan de hoorn van een gedroomde Engelse eenhoorn en wordt verder alleen nog door de (Engelsgezinde) Hollandse koopvaardij in de lucht gehouden. De Nederlander links houdt ruggespraak met een bezorgde koopman met een grootboek. Rechts trekt een Fransman de Engelsman van de bank, een Amerikaans-indiaans kind lijkt hem nog een duwtje te geven, de op z\u2019n knie\u00ebn zittende Spanjaard met krukken kan niet helpen.<\/p>\n<p>Bij de twee Hollanders liggen voorwerpen die de Nederlandse handel vertegenwoordigen: kaas, textiel, en andere waar. In de achtergrond duidt Hollands welvaren met windmolens en melkvee op het belang van landbouwproducten in het economische leven van Nederland.<\/p>\n<p>De tekst eronder roept om Engelse trouw aan de Nederland: \u201cDe Batavier houdt nog uw bankspel in de haak. Vermetele, beloon die trouw of vrees gerechte wraak!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maar de werkelijkheid loopt anders af:<\/p>\n<p>De Engelse economie was sterker gegroeid dan de Nederlandse. Uit jaloezie steunt de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Republiek_der_Zeven_Verenigde_Nederlanden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republiek<\/a> de rebellen in de Amerikaanse koloni\u00ebn, die zich tijdens de Amerikaanse Onafhankelijkheidsoorlog probeerden los te maken van het Britse Rijk. Wapens en munitie werden naar de Nederlandse kolonie Sint Eustatius verscheept, waar ze vervolgens tot woede van de Engelsen aan de Amerikanen werden doorverkocht.
