‘T HUYS DEVER<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHet Huis te Dever nabij Lisse<\/strong>\u201d, lithografie vervaardigd door Jan Dam Steuerwald<\/strong><\/a> naar een tekening van Petrus Josephus Lutgers<\/strong><\/a>. Uitgegeven in 1855<\/strong> te Amsterdam door C.A. Spin als deel van \u201cGezigten in de Omstreken van ‘s Gravenhage en Leyden<\/em>\u201d. Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. (incl. tekst) 19 x 24,5 cm.<\/p>\n

\u2019t Huys Dever dat vernoemd is naar Reinier d\u00b4Ever<\/a> (1332-1417), ligt ten zuiden van het dorp Lisse aan de Herenweg. De oudste vermelding van Dever is een akte van 10 augustus 1370 waarin Reinier die Ever zijn woning en vijf morgen land opdraagt aan Jan van Bloys, heer van Schoonhoven en Gouda. Wanneer de bouw precies begon, is onbekend, maar uit de akte valt op te maken dat de donjon<\/a> toen al bestond. In de 14de eeuw bestond Dever uit de woontoren met een voorburcht met hierop een boerderij en stal. Het geheel was omringd door een gracht met een breedte van 15 tot 20 meter. De toren werd van de voorburcht gescheiden door een tussengracht. <\/span><\/p>\n

In de 16de eeuw werd ten oosten van de toren een huis aangebouwd. Dit mat ongeveer 3,5 bij 4 meter en bestond uit drie kamers. Er was geen eigen ingang. Tussen 1630 en 1634 werd een groter herenhuis in min of meer Hollandse classicistische stijl aan de bestaande bouw toegevoegd. De gebouwen werden met tussenpozen bewoond tot ongeveer 1770. Daarna volgde een periode van leegstand en gebrekkig onderhoud. Uiteindelijk leidde dit in 1848 tot de instorting van de oudste aanbouw.. Op de litho staat het 17e-eeuwse herenhuis er ook al vervallen bij, kort daarna zou het instorten.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

De oude woontoren bleef staan, maar tijdens een storm in 1862 ging het dak verloren en raakte de toren in verval. Uiteindelijk stond van Dever alleen nog de buitenmuur van de toren. De toren werd in 1948 verkocht en gerestaureerd.<\/span><\/p>\n
