Size: 49,5 x 58,2 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Map of the Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Volhynia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Volhynia<\/a> [Wo\u0142y\u0144 in Polish], <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Podolia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Podolia<\/a> [\u041f\u043e\u0434\u0456\u043b\u043b\u044f in Ukrainian], Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prussia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prussia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Courland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Courland<\/a> [Kurzeme in Latvian]. With decorative title cartouche in the upper right corner.<\/p>\n<p>The map was made in the time of the &#8216;Deluge&#8217;, the final days of Polish Golden Age. When this map was initially engraved in 1655, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polish%E2%80%93Lithuanian_Commonwealth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polish\u2013Lithuanian Commonwealth<\/a> was one of the largest and most powerful kingdoms in Europe, stretching from modern Estonia in the north to Moldova in the east and Bohemia in the west. The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Khmelnytsky_Uprising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Khmelnytsky Uprising<\/a> of 1648 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Truce_of_Andrusovo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Truce of Andrusovo<\/a> in 1667 began a series of invasions by Russia and Sweden, collectively known as the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deluge_(history)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deluge&#8217;<\/a> or the &#8216;Swedish Deluge&#8217;. The seemingly unending invasions laid Poland low, with the Commonwealth losing most of its power and about one third of its population.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most notable effects of the devastating Deluge was the subsequent weakening of Poland&#8217;s international standing.
