Uit het &#8220;<em>Album d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 mes enfants et mes amis<\/em>&#8220;. \u00a0Afm.: (incl. tekst) ca. 46 x 60 cm.<\/p>\n<p>In 1841 kocht de Maastrichtse industrieel<a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Petrus_Regout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Petrus Regout<\/a> het 118 hectare grote, van oorsprong middeleeuwse landgoed Vaeshartelt in opdracht van koning <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Willem_II_der_Nederlanden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Willem II<\/a> om dienst te doen als koninklijk jachtslot. Na de dood van Willem II kwam het kasteel in 1851 in handen van Regout zelf, die het eerst als buitenverblijf en vanaf 1863 als vaste verblijfpaats ging gebruiken. Op een 7 ha groot terrein liet hij vanaf 1853 door de Belgische tuinarchitect J. Gindra een Engelse landschapstuin aanleggen met exotische bomen, ruime gazons waarin bloemperken, vijvers, fonteinen (aangedreven door een stoommachine), prieeltjes en <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Folly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">follies<\/a> lagen.<\/p>\n<p>Op korte afstand van Vaeshartelt liet Regout de bestaande villa Klein Vaeshartelt verbouwen. Bomenlanen verbonden Vaeshartelt met andere landgoederen van Petrus Regout in het <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13259 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/inter-antiquariaat.nl\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/Klein-Vaeshartelt-1-798x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"159\" height=\"159\" \/>gebied ten noorden van Maastricht, zoals kasteel <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kasteel_Meerssenhoven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Meerssenhoven<\/a> en La Grande Suisse.<\/p>\n<p>Een paar jaar na het overlijden van Petrus Regout in 1878 was het grootste deel van de parkversiering verdwenen. De familie Regout heeft het kasteel enkele generaties in bezit gehad, tot 1953. Daarna was het gebouw tientallen jaren in gebruik als jeugdherberg. Thans is er in het kasteel een luxueus hotel gevestigd. Buitenplaats Klein Vaeshartelt bestaat nog steeds.<\/p>\n<p>Wie in de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw een reisje per trein maakte van Maastricht naar Meerssen moet ongeveer de zelfde visuele ervaring van het landschap hebben opgedaan als dominee <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacobus_Craandijk_(1834-1912)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacobus Craandijk<\/a> in 1883:\u201d<em>&#8230;de tamelijk hooge spoorwegdijk &#8230; vergunt ons aan weerskanten een ruimer uitzigt, dan ons van den rijweg zou te beurt vallen. Onbekend is ons de welige landsdouw niet, maar met genoegen zien we haar rijke afwisseling van heuvels en dalen, van velden en bosschen, zich nog eens voor ons ontrollen, terwijl het stoompaard ons in snelle vaart er doorheen voert. Of wij daardoor de gelegenheid verliezen, Vaeshartelt en de overige bezittingen van den heer Petrus Regout in bijzonderheden te bezigtigen, weten wij niet, maar de eigenaar heeft gezorgd, dat landgenoot en vreemde voldoende op de hoogte kunnen komen van al het fraais, dat de kunst er heeft aangebragt.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dominee Craandijk refereert hier aan het bijzonder mooi uitgegeven \u2018<em>Album d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 mes enfants et mes amis<\/em>\u2019 dat Petrus Regout had laten illustreren in Parijs met prachtige chromolitho\u2019s, die de reiziger moesten verlokken tot een bezoek aan diens arcadia. Niet minder dan als een fee\u00ebriek wandel paradijs waar natuur en architectuur hand in hand gingen, zo heeft hij al zijn bezittingen laten vereeuwigen in dat album. Sprookjesachtige en kleurrijke prenten op groot formaat tonen Regouts rijkdom, zijn trots, zijn villa\u2019s, als parels aan een snoer geregen.<\/p>\n<p>Onder de kleurrijke platen staan teksten die de bezittingen van Regout aanprijzen. Tegenwoordig bekruipt de lezer het gevoel dat hier een man spreekt die schreeuwt om erkenning. Op deze voorstelling zien we &#8220;in de tuin van kasteel Klein Vaeshartelt, gelegen tegenover het Grand Ch\u00e2teau (met in haar parken meer dan 60 fonteinen) van de heer Regout, enige eigenaar van de kristal-, glas- en aardewerkfabrieken van Maastricht. Deze prachtige villa is gelegen aan de weg van Maastricht naar Nijmegen nabij het treinstation van Duitsland, Belgi\u00eb, Frankrijk en Nederland, dit gebouw bevat twee\u00ebntwintig zeer rijk ingerichte kamers, met 36 spiegels en kroonluchters etc. Het heeft bovendien een schuur, stal, baden, serres en een fontein met meerdere waterstralen in een overzichtelijke ingerichte tuin met bloemen, bogen, etc.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prijs: Euro 275,-<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cVue principal du petit Chateau Vaesharteld\u201d, lithografie in kleur vervaardigd door Theodore M\u00fcller en uitgegeven door Lemercier te Parijs in 1863 (of 1864).
