Vervaardigd door Jan Luyken en uitgegeven \u201c<em>met privilegie voor 15 Jaer \u2019t Amsterdam, by <strong>Ioannes van Keulen <\/strong>Boeck en Zee-kaert verkoper aende Nieuwbrug inde gekroonde Lootsman<\/em>\u201d. Uit diens zeemansgids \u201c<em>De Nieuwe Groote Lichtende Zee-Fakkel, \u2018t Tweede Deel<\/em>\u201d verschenen te Amsterdam <strong>na 1681<\/strong>. Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. (gravure): 51,2 x 58,2 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Het gebied rondom Texel, Vlieland en Terschelling was belangrijk voor de Amsterdamse scheepvaart. Het was dan ook van groot belang dat schippers wisten hoe ze veilig tussen de ondiepten door naar Texel en van daar verder naar de Noordzee konden varen. Bij Oudeschild (<em>\u00b4t Schilt <\/em>op de kaart) lag de rede van Texel, aangegeven met ankertjes op de kaart. Daar werd proviand en vers water ingeslagen voordat de grote reis overzee kon beginnen.<\/p>\n<p>Op deze <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paskaart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paskaart<\/a> van de Wadden zijn alleen vanuit zee zichtbare en opvallende topografische details van het kustgebied als ori\u00ebnteringspunten of bakens voor de zeeman weergegeven. Zo zien we dat met name kerktorens, duintoppen, vuurboten, etc. zijn aangegeven. Rondom de eilanden zien we de vaargeulen, zandplaten (en hun namen), <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Betonning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">betonning<\/a>, en diepteaanduidingen minutieus weergegeven.<\/p>\n<p>Op maritiem-cartografisch gebied beheersten Amsterdamse drukkers de wereldmarkt in de 17<sup>e<\/sup>-eeuw. <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johannes_van_Keulen_(cartograaf)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joannes van Keulen<\/a> werd in 1678 in het Amsterdamse boekverkopersgilde ingeschreven en veroverde al spoedig de markt met twee indrukwekkende uitgaven, een zeemansgids en een zeeatlas, die groter en vollediger waren dan wat er ooit op dit gebied was gepubliceerd.<\/p>\n<p><em>De Nieuwe Groote Lichtende Zee-Fakkel<\/em> werd het belangrijkste en bekendste product en bezorgde de firma een solide economische basis. Dit was onder meer omdat de het boek z\u00f3 goed was dat geen van Van Keulens concurrenten het nog lonend vond een nieuwe zeemansgids op de markt te brengen. Het was een groot en uitgebreid boekwerk: vijf foliobanden waarin alle door de Europeanen bevaren zee\u00ebn (met uitzondering van het door de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vereenigde_Oostindische_Compagnie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">V.O.C.<\/a> gemonopoliseerde gebied) voorkwamen.
