Langeveld, 1787"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UTRECHT IN HANDEN VAN DE PATRIOTTEN<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong><em>Kaart van de Stad Utrecht en eene zijde van de rivier de Leck met de Batterijen en Retranchementen die door de Burgers van Utrecht op Orders van den IIe Rhyn Grave von Salm buiten de Stad en Omleggende Plaatsen in den jaare 1787 syn Opgeworpen<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d Kopergravure vervaardigd door <strong>C.H. Koning<\/strong> en uitgegeven door <strong>D.M. Langeveld<\/strong> in <strong>1789<\/strong>. In de tijd met de hand gekleurd. Afm. 46 x 58,1 cm.<\/p>\n<p>In 1786 ontketende er een succesvolle burgerrevolutie in Utrecht. Onder leiding van de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patriotten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">patriot<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quint_Ondaatje\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quint Ondaatje<\/a> werd het gehate Utrechtse stadsbestuur afgezet en kreeg de stad een door de burgerij verkozen bestuur.<\/p>\n<p>Het was al een aantal jaren onrustig in Utrecht, de gezagsdragers probeerden het beloofde democratisch reglement van de patriotten zo lang mogelijk uit te stellen, dit leidde tot veel onvrede onder de burgers. Op 2 augustus 1786 werd de oude <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vroedschap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vroedschap<\/a> afgezet, de gekozen burger-gecommitteerden werden officieel be\u00ebdigd en hiermee werd de Utrechtse revolutie voltooid. Dit maakte Utrecht de eerste stad met een democratisch bestuur.<\/p>\n<p>De Utrechtse democratie duurde niet lang, na een jaar nam <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Willem_V_van_Oranje-Nassau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stadhouder Willem V<\/a> met steun van Pruisische troepen de macht weer over. Ondanks dat de macht weer in handen was van de stadhouder, was de revolutie in Utrecht een inspiratiebron voor vele andere groepen in binnen- en buitenland, zelfs tot in Amerika werd de situatie in Utrecht met grote belangstelling gevolgd.<\/p>\n<p>Patriottenleider Ondaatje vluchtte na de machtsovername van Willem V naar Frankrijk.<\/p>\n<p>Deze kaart is gemaakt voor de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orangisme_(Republiek)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orangisten<\/a>, die onder het gezag van de baron van Munster en de stadhouder werden geleid om de stad Utrecht weer over te nemen van de patriotten. Utrecht werd verdedigd door de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frederik_III_van_Salm-Kyrburg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rijngraaf van Salm<\/a> die het bevel voerde over de verdediging van de stad.<\/p>\n<p>Bij de nadering van het Pruisische leger, dat op bevel van <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frederik_Willem_II_van_Pruisen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frederik Willem II van Pruisen<\/a> de Republiek binnenviel, gaf Van Salm de stad Utrecht op zonder slag of stoot. Zijn regiment trok zich terug op Amsterdam en uiteindelijk op Muiden en Weesp. De &#8220;snoeverige leegloper&#8221; Van Salm kreeg zware kritiek te verduren. Binnen een week zou Salm de stad Amsterdam zijn ontvlucht, omdat men het vertrouwen in hem had verloren.
