\u201cOud<\/em> Berkenroede<\/em><\/strong>\u201d, lithografie vervaardigd door Hilmar Johannes Backer<\/a> <\/strong>naar een tekening van Petrus Josephus Lutgers<\/strong><\/a>. Uitgegeven in 1837-1844<\/strong> als deel van \u201cGezigten in de omstreken van Haarlem<\/em>\u201d. Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. (incl. tekst) 19 x 23,5 cm.<\/p>\n

De buitenplaats Oud Berkenroede ligt in Heemstede ten noorden van de buitenplaats Berkenrode<\/a>, die sinds 1797 het vroegere Westerduin als hoofdhuis<\/a> heeft. Pieter de la Court, uit een Leidse regentenfamilie en onder andere in 1769 burgemeester van Amsterdam, noemde zijn buiten aanvankelijk \u2018Oud Berkenrode\u2019, wat tot een jarenlange juridische strijd (van 1658 tot 1749) leidde met de eigenaren van de oudere heerlijkheid Berkenrode. De eigenaar van de heerlijkheid, Mattheus Lestevenon<\/a>, noemde zichzelf graag Lestevenon van Berkenrode. De titel verschafte hem aanzien in zijn diplomatieke werk. Uiteindelijk is ter onderscheiding de naam \u2018Oud Berkenroede\u2019 overeengekomen.<\/p>\n

Het buiten is later eigendom geweest van de regentenfamilies Backer en Van der Hoop. In 1793 kwam het in bezit van de vermogende Cornelia Catharina Hodshon<\/a>, ook \u2018Keetje\u2019 Hodshon genoemd, die in 1817 een groot herenhuis liet bouwen aan het Spaarne in Haarlem, bekend als het Hodshonhuis. Tegenwoordig fungeert het pand aan de Herenweg als kantoorruimte.<\/p>\n
