Coloured by a later hand. Size approx. 18 \u00d7 24 cm.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"273\" data-end=\"508\">By turning the <em data-start=\"288\" data-end=\"299\">volvelles<\/em> on the reverse, the years (1813 to 1820) can be set, as well as the day of the month. Turning the zodiac signs allows one to calculate the length of day and night, as well as the hour of sunrise and sunset.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"675\">In the upper scene <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pegasus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pegasus<\/a> has descended to earth. According to legend, wherever the white winged horse sets down its hooves, a spring of inspiration bursts forth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"962\">On the boat at left, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chronos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chronos<\/a> (Father Time) rows <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cupid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amor<\/a> forward: <em data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"771\">\u201cLe Tem(p)s fait passer l\u2019Amour\u201d<\/em> [time makes love fade away]. On the right, however, Amor propels the boat with Chronos, who carries a scythe: <em data-start=\"882\" data-end=\"914\">\u201cL\u2019Amour fait passer le Tem(p)s\u201d<\/em> (love makes time pass), until death parts us.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"964\" data-end=\"1439\">The lower scene is a copy of a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aurora_(Reni)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fresco by Guido Reni<\/a> from 1614. We see the blond god <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Apollo_(Griekse_mythologie)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apollo<\/a> in his chariot at sunrise, preceded by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phosphorus_(morning_star)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phosphorus<\/a> (the Morning Star) and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aurora_(mythology)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aurora<\/a> (goddess of the dawn) in a flowing golden dress above a dusky landscape. She brings flowers, the morning glow, down to earth. Around the chariot dance elegant female figures, known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Horae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horae<\/a> (the Hours). They embody the passage of time, while their diaphanous draperies are gently blown by the wind.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1441\" data-end=\"1739\"><em data-start=\"1441\" data-end=\"1590\">\u201cL\u2019Aurore aux Cheveux de Rose.
