The gentleman appears in full evening dress with bow tie, top hat, walking stick, and gloves. The lady wears a pearl necklace and a slender evening gown with a deeply cut back, typical of early 1930s fashion. In her arm she holds an impressive bouquet of flowers, just received. With elegant gestures she steps inside, her gloves already removed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"863\">The scene takes a satirical turn through the caption in <em data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"821\">Fliegende Bl\u00e4tter<\/em>. The gentleman cracks a bad joke:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"1106\">\u201e<em>Gn\u00e4diges Fr\u00e4ulein haben die Ohren gl\u00fccklicherweise etwas durch die Haare gesch\u00fctzt; wie ich erfahre, soll heute Abend noch eine Heulsirene auf uns losgelassen werden.<\/em>\u201c [<em>Gn\u00e4diges Fr\u00e4ulein<\/em>, your ears are fortunately somewhat protected by your hair; for as I hear, a wailing siren is to be unleashed upon us this evening.] To which she replies: \u201e<em>Ich bin allerdings gebeten worden, ein paar Schubertlieder zu singen.<\/em>\u201c [I have, after all, been asked to sing a few Schubert songs.]\n<p data-start=\"1108\" data-end=\"1409\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fliegende_Bl%C3%A4tter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em data-start=\"1108\" data-end=\"1127\">Fliegende Bl\u00e4tter<\/em> <\/a>was aimed at the German bourgeoisie and is regarded as the compendium of satire from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
