Coloured by a later hand. Size (print): 19 \u00d7 27 cm (frame: 43.5 \u00d7 50 cm).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"513\">The map is a reduced copy of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gerard_de_Jode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gerard de Jode<\/a>\u2019s atlas map of 1578.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"513\">The cartouche in the upper right corner describes the region: <span style=\"font-size: 14.4px;\">\u201cHolland, which was once <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batavia_(region)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Batavia<\/a>, the ancient dwelling place of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chatti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chatti<\/a>, is almost entirely surrounded by the sea, except on the east and south sides, where the rivers Rhine and Meuse separate it from the mainland. The interior is everywhere irrigated by rivers and streams and is so fertile that in the richness of its fields it yields to no other land.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"879\" data-end=\"1233\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">In his atlas of Europe, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Matthias_Quad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matthias Quad<\/a> (1557\u20131613) goes even further.
