Size: 23,1 x 37,9 cm.<\/p>\n<p>The composition shows colourful flowers, a characteristic Art D\u00e9co <em>parfumerie de luxe<\/em> bottle, long pale evening gloves \u2014 then the symbol of Parisian <em>\u00e9l\u00e9gance f\u00e9minine<\/em> \u2014 and, in the background, fine lacework.<\/p>\n<p>This is not a finished poster but a so-called &#8216;<em>maquette publicitaire<\/em>&#8216;: the preparatory design that an &#8216;<em>affichiste<\/em>&#8216; submitted to a store&#8217;s advertising department, from which the lithographer would then produce a large-format street poster or printed promotional card. The name of the store could be added at a later stage: on the poster itself, on a separate banderole, or on the plinth of a window display.<\/p>\n<p>The wording on this design belongs to a recurring commercial formula of the Parisian <em>grands magasins<\/em>. Department stores such as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Printemps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Au Printemps<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Le_Bon_March%C3%A9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le Bon March\u00e9<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grands_Magasins_du_Louvre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Les Grands Magasins du Louvre<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/La_Samaritaine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Samaritaine<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Galeries_Lafayette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galeries Lafayette<\/a> structured their retail year around fixed seasonal expositions.
