Coloured by a later hand. Size: 41,5 x 116 cm.<\/p>\n<p>One of the classic large-format views of the city of Innsbruck, as seen over the river Inn from the northwest. The view stretches from the <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Siebenkapellenkirche\">Siebenkapellenkirche<\/a> over the center with the <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesuitenkirche_(Innsbruck)\">Jesuitenkirche<\/a>, Old Castle, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Innsbruck_Cathedral\">Cathedral<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stadtturm_(Innsbruck)\">Town Tower<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spitalskirche_(Innsbruck)\">Spitalskirche<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Servitenkirche_(Innsbruck)\">Servite Monastery<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johanneskirche_(Innsbruck)\">Johanneskirche<\/a>, in the background <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ambras_Castle\">Ambras Castle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stift_Wilten\">Wilten Abbey<\/a>. The sky shows the city\u2019s coat of arms and a banner with the name, below the view there is a key with 40 city highlights. The view shows situation of the city of around 1730\/35<\/p>\n<p>Werner was born in Silesia, spent his early career working as a military engineer and cartographer, along with several other more colourful jobs (such as \u2018<em>Wunderdokter<\/em>\u2019) in Prague. In 1718, he began creating remarkable views\u00a0which brought him into contact with several leading art dealers and map publishers in Augsburg, most importantly the heirs of Jeremias Wolff (1663-1724).<\/p>\n<p>The firm would sponsor several European tours,\u00a0allowing Werner to obtain new artwork for his remarkable views.
