Size (engraved area) 23 \u00a0x 89 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Venice around 1840 was in transition. It was a time when the city was facing significant challenges as a result of its declining economic power and political influence. The city&#8217;s population had been declining for several decades, and many of its residents were struggling to make a living. However, despite these challenges, Venice remained one of the most beautiful and enchanting cities in the world. It was (and still is today) dotted with magnificent palaces, grand churches, and picturesque canals, which were lined with the colorful homes of its residents.<\/p>\n<p>From left to right we see the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Teatro_Malibran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teatro Malibran<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Santi_Giovanni_e_Paolo,_Venice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Santa_Maria_Formosa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Santa Maria Formosa<\/a>, the buildings of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Procuratie#Procuratie_Vecchie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Old Procuracies<\/a>, <span class=\"mw-page-title-main\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St_Mark%27s_Clocktower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St Mark&#8217;s Clocktower<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Piazza_San_Marco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Piazza San Marco<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St_Mark%27s_Campanile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St Mark&#8217;s Campanile<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doge%27s_Palace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Doge&#8217;s Palace<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Zaccaria,_Venice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Church of San Zaccaria<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Procuratie#Procuratie_Nuove\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Procuratie Nuove<\/a> on the northern side of Saint Mark&#8217;s Square, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Riva_degli_Schiavoni\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riva Degli Schiavoni<\/a> waterfornt, the tower of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Venetian_Arsenal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arsenal<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.venezia-tourism.com\/en\/venice-attractions\/parks-and-gardens\/giardini-pubblici.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public gardens<\/a> in Castello, the <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Porto_di_Venezia#Storia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free-trade port<\/a>, the island of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Giorgio_Maggiore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Giorgio Magiore<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Giudecca_Canal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giudeccia Canal<\/a> on the very right.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rijksmuseum.nl\/en\/collection\/RP-P-2015-26-663\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antonio Vallardi<\/a> is an Italian publishing house based in Milan. Founded in 1750 by Francesco Cesare Vallardi, the firm still operates today.
