Dolendo<\/strong> gebruikt als illustratie in <em>Beschrijvinghe ende af-beeldinge van alle de victorien &#8230; des Maurits van Nassau<\/em>, door J.J. Orlers en H. van Haestens, uitgegeven te Leiden 1610. Afm. (plaatafdruk): 23,5 x 36,5 cm.<\/p>\n<p>In de strijd om de specerijenhandel in Zuidoost-Azi\u00eb kwam het tot bloedige zeeslagen tussen het Koninkrijk Portugal en de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Republiek_der_Zeven_Verenigde_Nederlanden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Provinci\u00ebn<\/a>. Tijdens de Slag bij Bantam van 25-30 december 1601, versloeg admiraal Wolfert Hermansz met vijf schepen de Portugese vloot van dertig schepen onder commandant <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andr%C3%A9_Furtado_de_Mendon%C3%A7a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andr\u00e9 Furtado de Mendo\u00e7a<\/a> voor de kust Bantam. Furtado de Mendo\u00e7a was vanuit de grote basis in uitgestuurd om het Portugese gezag in de Indonesische Archipel te herstellen. De Portugezen werden echter tot aftocht gedwongen met achterlating van drie oorlogsschepen waarmee de basis voor de Nederlandse handel op de Oost was gelegd.
