Wachsmuth<\/strong>.\u00a0 Afm.: 59,5\u00a0 x\u00a0 82\u00a0 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Duits-Oost-Afrika was een Duitse kolonie in het gebied wat nu ongeveer overeenkomt met Burundi, Rwanda en het vasteland van het huidige Tanzania. De oppervlakte was bijna drie keer zo groot als het huidige Duitsland.<\/p>\n<p>De kolonie werd gesticht in de 1885. De Kilimanjaro werd in het keizerrijk beschouwd als de &#8220;hoogste berg van Duitsland&#8221; en was ook wel bekend als de &#8220;Kaiser-Wilhelm-Spitze&#8221;. Hij symboliseerde de wereldwijde ambities van Duitsland in de race om de verdeling van het &#8220;zwarte continent&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>De kolonisten (in 1913 ongeveer 5.350 Duitsers) richtten plantages op voor rubber, hennep, katoen en koffie. Op deze voorstelling zien we Moshi, een van de plaatsen waar een garnizoen met <em><a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schutztruppe\">schutztruppen<\/a><\/em> gelegerd was. Er werd volop gehandeld in ivoor zoals de \u201civoor-karavaan\u201d hier ook laat zien.<\/p>\n<p>Na de nederlaag van het Keizerrijk Duitsland in de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd het gebied verdeeld tussen het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Belgi\u00eb.
