Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm.: elk ca. 9 x 5 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Deze vrolijke serie prenten is gemaakt tijdens de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Verlichting_(stroming)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Verlichting<\/a> waarin rationalisten ervan overtuigd waren dat kennis en rede superieur waren aan traditie en geloof. Rationeel denken zou leiden tot vooruitgang. Met karikaturale speelsheid worden de dwaasheden (\u2018<em>les fous<\/em>\u2019) op de korrel genomen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Astrologische dwaasheid<\/li>\n<li>Bijgelovige dwaasheid<\/li>\n<li>April dwaasheid<\/li>\n<li>Ingebeelde ziekte<\/li>\n<li>Oproerige dwaasheid<\/li>\n<li>Bouwwaanzin<\/li>\n<li>De opschepper<\/li>\n<li>Krediet dwaasheid<\/li>\n<li>Complimenten dwaasheid<\/li>\n<li>Verliefde dwaasheid<\/li>\n<li>Zij die de almanak volgen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Daniel Nikolaus Chodowi\u00e9cki (1726 Danzig-1801 Berlijn) was een populaire Duitse tekenaar, kunstschilder, illustrator en prentmaker. Chodowi\u00e9cki\u2019s vader kwam uit een aristocratische Poolse familie die al sinds 1550 gevestigd was in Danzig. Zijn moeder was een Zwitserse Hugenote. Daniels broer deelde zijn liefde voor de kunsten, hij was miniaturist.<\/p>\n<p>Chodowi\u00e9cki boekte zijn eerste successen als illustrator van almanakken en kalenders. Later maakten zijn gravures hem beroemd over de hele wereld. Voor de uitvoering van zijn omvangrijke grafisch oeuvre (ca. 2300 gravures\/etsen) maakte Chodowiecki gebruik van de diensten van assistenten.
