Afm. 37 x 49 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Na 1620 geven nieuwe opmetingen van de landmeters <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adriaan_Metius\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adriaan Metius<\/a> en Gerard Freitag uitgevers de gelegenheid nieuwe kaarten van Friesland uit te brengen. In 1629 verscheen van Jodocus Hondius <a href=\"https:\/\/inter-antiquariaat.nl\/antiek\/verkocht\/friesland-hondius-1629\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">een gravure<\/a> die eigenlijk bestemd was voor de Mercator-Hondius atlas, maar los werd uitgegeven. De koperplaat werd in 1630 opgekocht door <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Willem_Blaeu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Willem Blaeu<\/a>, die de naam van Hondius door zijn eigen naam verving. De kaart werd door de firma Blaeu tot 1664 in haar atlassen opgenomen, al werd deze werd na een aantal jaren herzien en licht gewijzigd.<\/p>\n<p>Bij \u201c<em>Frisia Occidentalis<\/em>\u201d, oftewel West-Friesland, denken we tegenwoordig aan Noord-Holland, het gebied tussen Alkmaar en Enkhuizen, maar vroeger werd deze benaming in Noord-Nederland gebruikt voor het Friese gebied ten westen van de Dollard. De graafschap Oost-Friesland ontstond in 1464 en wordt later op kaarten aangeduid als \u201c<em>Frisia Orientalis<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 1580 werd het grootste deel van Friesland opgenomen in de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unie_van_Utrecht_(1579)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Unie van Utrecht<\/a>. Het gewest werd toen aangeduid als een &#8220;algemene heerlijkheid&#8221; ofwel de heerlijkheid Friesland. De Staten van Friesland waren samengesteld uit afgevaardigden van de 11 steden en de 30 <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grietenij\">grietenijen<\/a>. Vanaf 1580 zijn de stadhouders altijd leden van het huis van Nassau geweest.
