Afm. 31 x 22,1 cm.<\/p>\n<p>De Nederlandse leeuw is een begrip. Het dier staat symbool voor de kracht en moed van het land. De leeuw speelt een belangrijke rol bij het voetbal in onze tegenwoordige tijd, maar de verbeelding van Nederland als leeuw werd ge\u00efntroduceerd in moeilijke tijden, aan het eind van de 16de eeuw. Vanaf het midden van de Opstand tegen de Spanjaarden, stonden de Nederlanden model voor een reeks leeuwekaarten die op de markt kwamen.<\/p>\n<p>De <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leo_Belgicus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">leeuwekaart<\/a> fungeerde niet alleen als nuttige landkaart, maar werd als statement vaak aan de wand gehangen. Een uiting van actief beleefd burgerschap, van trots, van zelfbewustzijn en diende in een handelskantoor of overheidsgebouw vaak als spectaculair visitekaartje.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gallia_Belgica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Gallia Belgica<\/em><\/a> was in de Romeinse tijd het noordelijke deel van Galli\u00eb tussen de Seine en de Rijn. <em>Belgica<\/em> werd als Latijnse naam later ook synoniem voor de 17 Provinci\u00ebn en de Lage Landen.<\/p>\n<p>Deze leeuwekaart wordt toegeschreven aan <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johann_Wilhelm_Baur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johan Willem Bau(e)r<\/a> (1607-1640) of <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Miel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jan Miele<\/a> (1599-1664), beiden waren betrokken bij het vervaardigen van de gravures en kaarten in Famiano Strada\u00b4s boek over de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tachtigjarige_Oorlog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tachtigjarige Oorlog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Literatuur: \u201cLeo Belgicus &#8211; An illustrated and annotated carto-bibliography\u201d (2006) door H.A.M. van der Heijden, nr. 7.2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Prijs: Euro 2.950,-<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LEO BELGICUS Kopergravure uitgegeven door Francisco Corbelletti te Rome in 1647.
