Tulp – “La Flamande” <\/strong>(plaat X), kopergravure vervaardigd door Pierre Joseph Buch\u2019oz<\/strong> voor diens “Collection colori\u00e9e des plus belles vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de Tulipes qu’on cultive dans les Jardins des Fleuristes d\u2019Harlem<\/em>” [Gekleurde collectie van de mooiste vari\u00ebteiten tulpen die worden gekweekt in de tuinen van bloemisten te Haarlem], uitgegeven tussen 1781-1797<\/strong>. In de tijd met de hand gekleurd. Afm. (plaatafdruk): 33 x 20.5 cm (lijst: 46,5 x 34 cm).<\/p>\n

In de tweede helft van de achttiende eeuw kende Frankrijk een bloei van publicaties over natuurlijke historie. Na de troonsbestijging van Lodewijk XVI<\/a> in 1774 werd de regelgeving rond de handel in boeken versoepeld, waardoor het voor auteurs gemakkelijker werd om hun eigen werk uit te geven. Dat deed ook Pierre-Joseph Buch\u2019oz<\/a> (1731-1807), een Franse arts, jurist en natuuronderzoeker. (We zien zijn kennis van de botanie, maar hij had ook interesse in de behandeling van melancholie en adviseerde daarvoor muziek als therapie.)<\/p>\n

De werken van Buch’oz staan bekend om de fraaie illustraties en zijn zeldzaam vanwege de beperkte oplage. De platen werden in afleveringen uitgegeven en werden soms tot een boek samengebonden.<\/p>\n
