Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm.: 26,5 x 32,5 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Deze zeldzame lithografie is gemaakt aan de hand van schetsen die <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louis_Le_Breton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louis Le Breton<\/a> (1818-1866), scheepsarts en tekenaar van de expeditie, terwijl de Astrolabe en Z\u00e9l\u00e9e onder bevel van <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jules_Dumont_d%27Urville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dumont D&#8217;Urville<\/a> (1790-1842) in februari 1839 gedurende tien dagen voor anker gingen voor Ambon.<\/p>\n<p>Op de rede liggen enkele Nederlandse koopvaarders. Twee hebben er ernstige stormschade opgelopen: de masten zijn gebroken, het want gescheurd en de zeilen gescheurd of opgerold \u2013 stille getuigen van de gevaren die de moesson en tropische stormen voor de scheepvaart in deze wateren vormden.<\/p>\n<p>Toen de Franse expeditie Ambon bezocht, was het eiland nog slechts een regionale bestuurszetel binnen de Molukken, die in de tijd van de VOC het bestuurlijke centrum van de eilandengroep was geweest.
