Afm. 30,9 x 38,4 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Deze samengestelde historische kaart komt uit de invloedrijke atlas van <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Karl_Spruner_von_Merz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Karl Spruner von Merz<\/a> (1803-1882), waarin de historische ontwikkeling van Europa cartografisch wordt gevisualiseerd. Het blad is gewijd aan de Oostzeelanden en biedt in \u00e9\u00e9n overzicht meerdere tijdslagen en thematische invalshoeken, kenmerkend voor de negentiende-eeuwse historische cartografie.<\/p>\n<p>Het hoofdblad links toont Polen en Litouwen aan het begin van de dertiende eeuw, in een periode waarin het Pools-Litouwse gebied nog politiek gefragmenteerd is en zich aan de rand bevindt van de expansie van zowel Duitse als Scandinavische invloeden. De grenzen zijn met kleur geaccentueerd, terwijl een dicht netwerk van rivieren, plaatsen en regionale aanduidingen een beeld geeft van de geografische kennis en historische interpretatie in de negentiende eeuw.<\/p>\n<p>Rechts wordt de aandacht verlegd naar de gebieden van de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duitse_Orde\">Duitse Orde<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pruisen\">Pruisen<\/a> en <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lijfland\">Lijfland<\/a>, met een chronologische afbakening tot respectievelijk 1525 en 1562. Hier staat de militaire en religieuze expansie van de ridderorden centraal, die een beslissende rol speelden in de kerstening en politieke ordening van het Baltische gebied.<\/p>\n<p>De kleinere inzetkaarten rechtsonder behandelen specifieke aspecten: de omgeving van Riga als belangrijk handels- en machtscentrum, de kerkelijke indeling van de Oostzeelanden tot aan de Reformatie, en een overzichtskaart van het gebied tot 1773, het jaar van de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Poolse_Delingen#Eerste_Poolse_Deling\">eerste Poolse deling<\/a>.
