AFFICHE VAN EEN GROOTMEESTER
“B\u00e9n\u00e9dictine”\u009d, kleurenlithografie naar het ontwerp uit 1898 van Alphonse Mucha (1860 “” 1939), gedrukt door F. Champenois te Parijs. Gesigneerd in de druk rechtsonder. <\/p>\n

In uitstekende (!) conditie. Gemonteerd op linnen, in kwalitatief hoogwaardige lijst. Afmetingen (litho) ca. 205 x 77 cm.; (lijst) 222 x 88 cm.<\/p>\n

Het affiche toont twee dames die bloemen in een herbarium leggen, een verwijzing naar de kruiden waarvan de likeur B\u00e9n\u00e9dictine wordt bereid. Onderaan een gezicht op de abdij in F\u00e9camp (Normandi\u00eb) waar de drank al eeuwen lang wordt gemaakt.<\/p>\n

Alphonse Mucha werd geboren in Moravi\u00eb (huidig Tsjechi\u00eb) en is onlosmakelijk verbonden met de Jugendstil, aanvankelijk “\u02dcle style Mucha’ genoemd. Als geen ander wist hij de Slavische ziel met een licht melancholische inslag weer te geven. In 1887 vertrok Mucha naar Parijs. Heel de stad was overweldigd door zijn werken en de affiches werden zelfs van de straat geroofd. De sierlijke lijnen, frisse pastelkleuren en weelderige motieven in zijn illustraties van sensuele vrouwen, werden de iconen van het fin de si\u00e8cle. <\/p>\n

Een dergelijke vormgeving, zachte kleuring en verbluffend subtiele tekenkunst was nog nooit eerder vertoond en gaf richting aan de Art Nouveau. Toch wilde Mucha niet dat zijn werk als “Art Nouveau”\u009d bestempeld werd, in zijn ogen was kunst eeuwig en kon nooit nieuw zijn. Anno 2008 is Mucha nog steeds wereld beroemd.<\/p>\n
