In de tijd met de hand gekleurd. Afm: 33 x 107,5 cm.<\/p>\n<p>We zien Rome vanaf de overzijde van de Tiber, een volgebouwde stad met talloze koepels en torens. Onder het profiel een legenda met 80 van de belangrijkste gebouwen.<\/p>\n<p>Aan het einde van de zeventiende eeuw verloor de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden langzaam maar zeker haar rol als economische supermogendheid aan Engeland. Jarenlang hadden Nederlandse uitgevers de markt voor stadsgezichten gedomineerd, maar vanaf het begin van de achttiende eeuw waren het de buitenlandse uitgeverijen die stad (en land) vastlegden.<\/p>\n<p>Het Beierse Augsburg was met een aantal zeer actieve uitgeverijen \u2018<em>Europas Bilderfabrik<\/em>\u2019. De belangrijkste uitgeverij aldaar was die van Jeremias Wolff (1663-1774) wiens zaak werd overgenomen door zijn schoonzoon Johann Balthasar Probst, vervolgens overging in de handen van Georg Bathasar Probst en later weer in handen kwam van diens zonen Georg Balthasar Probst II en <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johann_Friedrich_Probst_(Kupferstecher)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johann Friedrich Probst<\/a>. Tot 1802 blijft het bedrijf in handen van de familie Probst. De firma modelleerde stadsgezichten veelal naar Beiers voorbeeld, waarin de kerktorens ietwat uivormige bekroningen kregen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Friedrich_Bernhard_Werner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Friedrich Bernhard Werner<\/a> (1690-1776) had een kleurrijke loopbaan voordat hij als freelance kunstenaar voor de uitgeverijen van Augsburg ging werken. Zo was hij onder meer soldaat, \u2018<em>Wunderdoktor\u2019<\/em>, vertaler van opera\u2019s en landmeter.
