Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. (druk) 36,2 x 52 cm.<\/p>\n<p>De litho toont de eerste zeilwedstrijd van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Yachtclub gehouden op het IJ te Amsterdam. Centraal aan de overzijde liggen de deelnemende platbodems (<a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boeier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">boeiers<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tjalk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tjalken<\/a>) te wachten. Op de voorgrond kleine boten met toeschouwers op het water. Aan de overzijde de publieke tribune versierd met vlaggen. In de marge onderaan staat het wapen van de vereniging.<\/p>\n<p>Eerder in 1846 organiseerde de in Rotterdam gevestigde Koninklijke Nederlandsche Yachtclub al een zeilwedstrijd op de Maas, zie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rijksmuseum.nl\/nl\/collectie\/RP-P-OB-88.771\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>De Koninklijke Nederlandsche Yachtclub (K.N.Y.C.) was een watersportvereniging die in 1846 werd opgericht door prins Hendrik. De Yachtclub wilde meer zijn dan een plaatselijke watersportvereniging, en zou een \u201cNederlandsche\u201d club moeten worden. Vanaf het begin zat het echter niet mee: het bestuur telde zes Rotterdammers en slechts een Amsterdammer. De afstanden waren medio 19<sup>e<\/sup>-eeuw nog groot en men bleef liever dichter bij huis. In Amsterdam werd december 1847 de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssrp.nl\/netwerk\/verenigingen\/muiden-koninklijke-nederlandse-zeil-en-roeivereniging\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeil en Roeivereeniging<\/a> opgericht met dezelfde doelstellingen als de Yachtclub. Na de oprichting van de KNZ&amp;RV be\u00ebindigden de meeste Amsterdammers hun lidmaatschap van de Yachtclub. Rond 1860 waren er onderhandelingen met het bestuur van de in 1851 opgerichte Koninklijke Roei- en Zeilvereniging De Maas om tot samengaan van beide verenigingen te komen. De onderhandelingen leidden niet tot het gewenste resultaat.<\/p>\n<p>Met de Yachtclub ging het steeds minder florissant, zodat in 1871 Prins Hendrik financieel moest bijspringen om de schuldeisers te voldoen. Het overlijden van Prins Hendrik in 1879 bracht ook het einde van de Yachtclub in zicht, en in 1882 werd de Yachtclub door gebrek aan financi\u00eble middelen opgeheven.
