Bruy\u00e8re (1884 &#8211; na 1959) was geboren op het Franse platteland, maar haar ambitieuze ouders verhuisden naar de groeiende voorsteden van Parijs, waar het hen voor de wind ging. Ze woonden in het chique Saint Gratien, waar ook Princesse Mathilde (het nichtje van Napoleon I) woonde. Ze volgde haar opleiding bij <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louise_Ch%C3%A9ruit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cheruit<\/a> en vervolgens bij <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeanne_Lanvin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lanvin<\/a>. In 1928 opende ze haar eigen &#8220;<em>Bruy\u00e8re Couture<\/em>&#8220;\u009d, en met haar collectie van begin 1930 plaatste ze zich tussen de toonaangevende jonge ontwerpers van haar tijd zoals <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elsa_Schiaparelli\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Schiaparelli<\/a>, Alix, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rochas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rochas<\/a> en <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mainbocher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mainbocher<\/a>. Haar faam groeide internationaal, waardoor ze in 1937 een grand salon aan de Place Vend\u00f4me kon openen.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"nl\"><span class=\"\" title=\"\">Haar ontwerpen werden ook ge\u00ebxporteerd naar de Verenigde Staten. In 1932 was de naam Bruy\u00e8re in de winkels van Manhattan de op twee na bekendste (achter <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Madeleine_Vionnet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vionnet<\/a> en Lanvin).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Haar kleding was chique, zeer draagbaar en bovenal modieus, opvallend door subtiele en ongewone design elementen. Met twee shows per jaar van elk 200 modellen, had ze een enorme productie en had in 1947 328 medewerkers. Haar bedrijf groeide tot midden jaren 1950.
