FACTORIJ IN CAMBODJA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong><em>Eauweck, Hoofdstad van Cambodia<\/em><\/strong>\u201d , kopergravure uit <strong>Fran\u00e7ois Valentijn<\/strong>\u2019s \u201c<em>Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indien<\/em>\u201d, gegraveerd door Jan van Braam naar het voorbeeld van <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johannes_Vingboons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Johannes Vingboons<\/a> en uitgegeven te Dordrecht door Gerard onder de Linden in <strong>1724-1726<\/strong>. Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm.: 35 x 28 cm.<\/p>\n<p>De stad Lauweck (ook Loveck, Lawec of Khum Peam Lvek) in Cambodja ligt aan de rivier de Me Kong, nabij Phnom Penh en Oudong (of Udong), de oude hoofdstad. Al vanaf 1609 voer de <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vereenigde_Oostindische_Compagnie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VOC<\/a> vanuit Patani af en toe op Cambodja om onder andere herte- en roggevellen te kopen waar in Japan veel vraag naar was.<\/p>\n<p>Na de stichting van een <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Factorij\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">factorij<\/a> in 1620 viel de handel toch tegen en werd het al twee jaar later weer gesloten. Daarna is er nog driemaal opnieuw een kantoor geopend te Lauweck. In 1667 is de VOC definitief uit Cambodja vertrokken. Behalve herte- en roggevellen kocht de compagnie in Cambodja vooral levensmiddelen voor <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batavia_(Nederlands-Indi%C3%AB)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Batavia<\/a> zoals rijst, boter, gezouten varkensvlees, en reuzel. Ook werd er benzo\u00eb-hars, gommelak, ivoor en goud gehaald. In ruil daarvoor werden hoofdzakelijk katoenen stoffen geleverd. Lauweck was geen druk bevaren handelsplaats. Het grootste deel van de bevolking leefde van de landbouw.
