VOLUMINOUSLY DRAPED EVENING GOWN
Drawing in Indian ink and watercolor, created circa 1910–1915. Indistinctly signed “Lindner” (?) in the lower left. Size (paper): 36.5 × 19.5 cm.
This design drawing vividly captures the luxurious elegance of early twentieth-century Parisian fashion. The evening gown, rendered in deep blue, is richly draped and crowned with a dramatic feathered headpiece — a quintessential fashion image from the years just before the First World War, when theatre and couture closely influenced one another.
The identity of the maker remains unknown. During this period, numerous designers and creative assistants worked behind the scenes for renowned fashion houses such as Paquin, Doucet, Chéruit, and Doeuillet. Although their names were often not recorded, they played an indispensable role in shaping the opulent haute couture of the Belle Époque.
This design stands as a testament to the pursuit of grace, luxury, and an almost theatrical expression that made the Parisian fashion world so influential.
