LOVELY ART NOUVEAU DRAWING

Printemps” [Spring], drawing with pen made by Eugène Edouard Morand around 1900. Signed to the bottom left corner “E Morand”. Size: 21.5 x 17 cm.

A serene fin de siècle scene of a young woman sitting amidst blossoming branches. She is engrossed in reading sheet music. Surrounding her are small singing birds and musical notes, adding to the atmosphere of tranquility and natural beauty. The overall composition evokes a sense of renewal, growth, and the joyful spirit of springtime.

Eugène Morand (1853-1930) is better known as a playwright and librettist, but at the turn of the century he was more focused on painting and drawing. This work, probably a sketch for the basis of another work, is dated by its similarity to other work of his at the time. Morand was a painter of the Ruskin School of Art, and admirer of the Pre-Raphaelites.
