Real Winters – 25 November-20 December 2020

Sales exhibition ‘Real Winters’ – ice skating and winter scenes from the 17th-19th century. Prints and drawings with wintry landscapes full of skating fun.

Come and visit us at Bernard Zweerskade 18 in Amsterdam from Wednesday 25 November until Sunday 20 December.

Winter is precious to many Dutch people. The thought of ice and skating alone makes our heart beat faster. In the past just as well as today. So much is clear, in this presentation of no less than 47 winter scenes from the 17th-19th century. Skaters young and old, kolf players, sledges and richly decorated horse drawn sleighs, charming courtships and people falling, koek-and-zopie on the side, but also transport of wood, water, beer and other winter activities. A great variety, providing an entertaining and informative look at life during the cold season in earlier centuries. Especially in economically difficult times, such scenes can provide comfort.
