When this map was made, the Kingdom of Naples was part of the Spanish territories of the Habsburg Monarchy. In the top right corner we see the Spanish coat of arms. As a source for this map, Blaeu used an atlas by the Italian cartographer Giovanni Antonio Magini (1555-1617), whose atals “Italia” was published posthumously in Bologna in 1620.

The map was published as part of Blaeu’s Atlas Maior.
